Gower Estates Pool has one of the largest and most successful swim teams
in Greenville County. We have been division champions over 19 times. This is a
record of which every member of the swim team can be proud. It is the result of
endless hours of practice coupled with a strong commitment from swimmers, coaches, and
parents.
Gower Swim Team is part of the Swim Association Invitational League (SAIL)
which began in the summer of 1964. The organization was originally was called
PYA (Parent/Youth Association) and consisted of community pools who wished to
compete. In 1965 it was renamed SAIL and with the rapid growth in communities
it was split into three divisions by the early seventies. SAIL has continued
to grow and in 2005 it may has as many as 38 pools and represented by 30 teams
in six divisions: Red, White, Blue, Purple, Green and Gold.
Gower is part of the Red Division. Each division hosts a divisional meet
in addition to their dual meets. The teams (Gower, Greenville Country Club, Riverwalk,
Sugar Creek and Stone Lake) within the Red Division compete for points during
that meet. At the end of the divisional meet, the team scoring the highest points
is named Red Division Champion.
